Big girl underpants aka potty training hell

We started Day 1with lots of enthusiasm...
How could she not have been thrilled when I immediately began offering the salty snacks and juice in the morning.

We hung out on the hardwoods or on the waterproof pad.

There was some confusion.

And a lot of hand washing.

Plenty of time hanging out on the potty.

And lots of big cheers!

She quickly got her swagger back
And now we rock the big girl underpants.

That first day was rougher than I expected.  She did awesome but thinking and talking about nothing besides going pee pee on the potty all day was utterly exhausting.  The only thing that stopped me from pouring myself a margarita during naptime was not wanting to pick Hazy up from daycare with booze on my breath.  But we made it through and each day gets easier.  Thank god for the OxyClean stain stick.

My future son-in-laws

Colie and Bob had their beautiful baby BOYS!  I got see Jack and Smith in the hospital but we hauled the whole family over to say hello once they all got home.  Even though Hazy is only 4 months old I forgot quickly how little newborns are.  They are gorgeous, and perfect, and oh so loved.

While John and I snuggled the fellas,

Hazy worked on her rolling.

And Sloane texted her other friends.

Two mamas, four kiddos

Gorgeous boys

Congratulations, Hardings!!!

4 months

I can’t believe my baby is four months old! Time is flying by way to fast. The girl is growing like a weed and developing new delicious rolls each day. She is happy, she is healthy, we are in love with our sweet girl. We had a great four month well check with Dr. J that included 3 shots (2 pokes and an oral.) Sloane loved to talk about “sissy’s pokes” and, in my opinion, was a little too thrilled about the shots.

Here are Hazel’s four month stats:
Weight: 16 lbs 5 oz (88%)
Height: 26 (91%)
Noggin: 40.6 cm (27%) - pin head
In comparison, here are Sloane’s four month stats:

Weight: 16 lbs 11 oz (97%)
Height: 25 3/4 inches (95%)
Noggin: 41 1/2 cm (75%)
My sweet Hazy girl,

We thought Sloane was the sweetest and happiest baby in the world, until we had you. You have changed so much in the past month. You are so happy and smiley. As Mimi says, “All you have to do is look at her and she smiles.” It’s true. You also laugh, a lot. Great big laughs that make your belly shake. You drool so much that we go through a ton of bibs and onesies every day. I am constantly doing laundry and most of it is yours. You still have your moments. Occasionally you’ll have an evening where you want to cry for no reason for a couple of hours or you are super fussy going down, but those are rare. Your sad face is the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen. You stick your lower lip out so far and your eyes are instantly sad. You know it works and that you are instantly scooped up and snuggled. Every couple of weeks you will wake up in the night hungry but you usually sleep from 8:00 – 7:00. I know how lucky we are.

You rolled over from back to front for the first time shortly after you turned 3 months old. You are still surprised when you do it and often find yourself with one arm pinned underneath you, very unhappy. You haven’t rolled from tummy to back yet, but that won’t be too long now since you have a great toleration for tummy time each day. You are constantly on the move. It’s hard to get a picture where your arms and legs aren’t blurred. Sometimes I think you are going to fly. You are spastic and are constantly hitting me in the chest or in the chin when you are nursing. Sometimes it feels like a boxing match. In the morning you always wake up turned 180 degrees from where you are put down.

Turns out no one else can believe you are four months old. At the doctor’s office a few weeks ago the nurse came out to the waiting room and called your name. I said “hi” and started to gather our stuff to walk back to the exam room. The nurse looked at you in your carseat, looked down at her chart, looked around the waiting room, back at you, then hesitantly back at her chart. I said, “is it us?” She looked back at you and said, ‘THAT baby is 3 ½ months old?” Um, yeah, lady. Back off my big baby. Then at our four month well check the nurse’s comment as I undressed you to put you on the scale was, “THAT is a BIG baby. And it’s true. I felt like you were barely in your 6 month clothes. So many beautiful girl dresses that weren’t even worn once. You are now in 9 month and some 12 month duds. There are so many snuggly outfits just waiting for you once the weather turns.

You are so loved. Sloane is constantly giving you hugs and kisses (which I love, but makes me nervous with cold and flu season around the corner). Coop gives you a big sniff every once in a while before going back to ignoring. You love your daddy but you save the biggest smiles and laughs for me.
We love you, Hazy, and are looking forward to our fall adventures.

Whidbey

We dug in the sand, relaxed, rode a ferry, went for walks, drank margaritas, ate, played in the park, tubbed with our cousins, did our morning stretches, watched Disney movies, splashed in the ocean, collected seashells, watched football, laughed, wrestled our cousins, and slept. Wait, no, we didn't actually sleep. Our first attempt of having Sloane sleep outside of her crib or pack n play did not go well. The girl hates to miss a party and proved her penchant to want to keep the party going. Despite our lack of sleep we had a blast with Mimi, Bobba, Matt, Nikka, Mayson, Max and Miles during our weekend on the ocean. Life at the beach is pretty grand.
