Oh my god (or OMG as my mom would say) this is all happening so fast.

Our girl is CRAWLING. She's been doing a semi-crawl for a few weeks but last week moved into the full on army crawl. She gets the most determined look on her face as she starts to move. I love that Sloane has moved on to this stage but we'll be busier than ever keeping her away from the fireplace and trying to make sure my floors are clean. Not easy when Cooper has started her spring shed. While I've gotten used to finding dog hair everywhere and having Coop in our lives is worth every daily (yes, I said daily) sweeping, I need my floors to be spotless if Sloane's going to be cruising around on them. Yeah, I know, first time mom. I'm sure I'll get over it eventually.

I mentioned the WAVING in earlier posts but it's just gotten so hilarious. When I go to wake her up in the morning Sloane opens her eyes, smiles, then waves. She waves at everything and everyone. We wave to her room when head to eat breakfast, we wave goodbye to Coop as we are leaving the house, she even waves goodbye to the house as we are pulling out of the driveway. It's pretty cute.

Next on the list of "tricks" is CLAPPING and Sloane's just started to pick it up. When certain claps actually make noise she looks bewildered and thrilled all at the same time. It's priceless.

A cabin on the lake

We headed up to the Knight's cabin on Lake Wenatchee in Leavenworth last weekend. 6 couples and 7 kids under the age of 5. Total choas, right? Nope. It was one of those weekends with the perfect balance of relaxation, kid time, friend time, and adult fun. We packed up Friday afternoon and headed out shortly after our goal time of 5 pm. Made it up there just in time to feed the girl and put her to bed before enjoying some of Colleen's delicious gumbo and some cocktails.

We spent Saturday alternating between playing, eating, napping, chatting, reading, and staring out at the gorgeous scenery. Saturday night was a little more subdued but no less entertaining with our marathon game of Taboo.

The boys did some creative writing with their dominos. Lucy was thrilled.

We are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of friends and I find myself smiling when I think of our kids growing up together. It's pretty cool.

Diggin the sunshine

Spring has sprung in Seattle! Though I fully expect that this is just a tease and it will downpour for the next four weeks straight. But April showers bring May flowers so stop your whining people, you live in Seattle.

As much as I love the rain, and I do, I will admit how nice it is to once again resume our evening walks. The last time we got to do these with any regularity Sloane was still just a wee babe and slept through the entire outing. Now she's a big girl*, sitting up and facing forward, taking in all the sites.

We had a fun walk to our neighborhood park on Tuesday. This gal loves to swing.

* Big as in growing up, not big as in large person. Mimi gave me a very stern talking to this weekend about calling her precious granddaughter a gentle giant in a previous post.

We are dying to know what she is saying. This gal is definitely John's daughter - she has his exact same low chuckle. She's laughs so easily and seems to totally crack herself up every few minutes.

Sunday Funday

What better way to celebrate John's actual birthday than with a day full of family. We started the morning at my parent's to watch the game (let's not talk about it) and enjoy a delicious brunch to celebrate John and Nikka (her bday was on the 6th).

Then we moved on the Sandy and Leo's and our 3rd Poort Family Cookoff. The theme this time was "small bites" a much more broad category than previous competitions. One of the proposed benefits of small bites is that we wouldn't all go home feeling like we swallowed a whale. With food this good? Yeah right. Pretty sure we all waddled home. All of the entries were pretty incredible. And the big winners? Amy & Ben with their crispy pork bellies. Nice work!

Where are the guests of honor?

Clean house - check. Delicious mexican dinner prepared - check. Ready for a much overdue evening with my besties and their fellas - hell yes! We were so excited that the Johnsons were in town this weekend and ready to celebrate with a little fiesta at casa de Poort. Unfortunately, I got a phone call from Jen a 1/2 hour before dinner announcing that they were at Children's and Tay Tay was getting some much needed fluids. The party went on, but it was definitely not the same. Plus Nicole's flight was delayed so she couldn't even join the end of the evening.

Last fall we had to cancel our goodbye party for the Johnson's when Taylor was in the hospital. Tay Tay - do you not like us? We will keep trying!

We had some friends over on Friday night to watch the game and celebrate John and Adam's birthday. Big win for the dawgs and pretty fun night for these fans.

We were having too much fun to take many photos. I didn't even get a photo of the other birthday boy - sorry Adam! There were a few late night photos, but those were taken after I thought shots were a good idea so they're a little scary. Plus this blog will be turned into a book for our family and I'd rather not give my daughter any ammunition.

Happy birthday, Johnny P.

Happy birthday to Sloane’s dad. 33 looks good on you. Lots of changes this year...beautiful daughter, new house, new job. You've handled it all with such ease and your usual charm. Sloane couldn't ask for a better or more doting dad. Now you start sentences with, “Did you read the article in parent’s magazine…” You take gift cards people buy for you and use them to buy outfits for your daughter (all purple and gold, of course). You are one incredible guy. Happy birthday, old man. We love you. A lot. And go dawgs!
