Oh my darlin' Sloane Nicole

Sloane,

Though it's just been 2 1/2 months since your 2nd birthday, the last few weeks have been pretty entertaining so I think you deserve an update of your own.  Here is what's going on in your world...

Your crazy curly hair gets curlier and crazier each day.  Your bed head is something to behold.  Luckily, you'll wear pigtails or a clip most of the time so your hair isn't always flopping in your eyes like it used to.  We should probably take you in for a shaping trim, but I'm just not ready to do that yet so it's still a couple of inches longer on the sides than in the back.  People are constantly commenting on your curls in public and you love the attention.

You are a water baby.  You loved playing in the pool during the heat wave and your swimming dates with your dad make Tuesday your favorite night of the week.  You could spend hours in the tub and love to practice your "reach and pull", "kick kick kick", and bubble blowing in there.

You are an awesome big sister.  Though you're still not as gentle as you should sometimes be, you've come a long way, baby.  You ask to see Hazy first thing when you wake up in the morning.  You love to make funny faces at her and watch her smile.  You also love to make out with her.  We're working on "quick kisses."

You won't go anywhere without one of your baby dolls and take great care to breast or bottle feed then burp them.  You have some strange aversion to doll clothes so your girls are always naked.  I used to put the clothes back on but you'd immediately take them off so I've given up.

You are getting very into pretend play.  You love to host tea parties in your house for your friends.  Sometimes Hazy and I get invited.  The other day, in the middle of one of your parties, the door opened, Elmo and baby were tossed out, and the door quickly shut behind them.  I still haven't figured out what they did to get kicked out that day.

A summertime maternity leave has meant a lot of park time.  You love to set up your store where you serve pancakes, nectarines, waffles, and "mocha-ccinos."  I pretend eat a lot of woodchips these days.

Earlier this week you were mauled by an overexcited toddler at the playground.  What I think was supposed to be a hug resulted in a big scratch from your eye to your mouth.  You screamed bloody murder for 10 minutes then would shout "THAT BOY SCRATCHED ME" at the top of your lungs whenever you spotted him for the next 1/2 hour.  I felt bad for his poor mother and wonder if they will ever go back to that park again.

You are one plugged in kiddo.  You are a whiz with the ipad and iphone.  We have to keep them hidden from you most of the time but they are a great distraction when we need it.  You know all of your letters and I've gotta give the Elmo alphabet app some of the credit for that.

You are still a good sleeper and I'm thrilled to get a hour and half nap from you each day.  You are usually a good sleeper at night but lately you haven't gone down very easily.  It was quite a shock to check the monitor the other night and see your naked buns. You've kept your bottoms on since then.

We do lots of this (you give great hugs and kisses)...

but it feels like we spend most of the time like this...

The stuff that comes out of your mouth is pretty hilarious and we're always trying to stifle our giggles.

This week at the park a little girl your age was talking to me.  You marched over, got right up in her grill and yelled.  "That's MY mommy!"

You are outgoing and shy at the same time.  You are constantly wanting to talk to strangers, but insist that I do it for you.  "Mommy, say hi to him.  Mommy, say hi to him.  Mommy, SAY HI TO HIM!"  It was hilarious the first time at the grocery store but now I have to say hi to every person who stands around us and it confuses many people.

You love "your song", sung to Oh My Darling Clementine.  "Oh my darlin, oh my darlin', oh my darlin' Sloane Nicole.  She's got crazy curly hair, how I love my silly Sloane."  You sang it at the top of your lungs for 20 minutes while we walked through QFC the other day.

The other day I took my hair out of my ponytail to re-do it.  As I shook my hair to gather it up I heard you gasp and whisper, "Mommy's a mermaid."

You love watching Tangled and often wander around the house shouting, "Eugene, Eugene!"

You are slightly obsessed with farting and will occasionally yell out, "Mommy I tooted!" at inappropriate times.

You narrate everything.  "Look, daddy, she's walking."  "Look, mom, they're kissing."  "Hey, daddy, Cooper's sleeping."

We've given you a lot of encouragement as part of your potty training and you are returning it.  Often, when I walk out of the bathroom I am greeted with, "You go potty, mommy?  I'm so proud of you!"

You are polite, you are kind, you are a good listener.  Some of the time.  You're getting your share of time outs these days.  You used to think they were funny, you would ask for them.  Luckily, that phase seems to be ending and you are finally realizing that time outs are not cool.

You are the master manipulator.  You will so something bad (like hit me) then immediately take my face in both of your hands, tilt my head to the side, and say "I love you mommy."  When your dad is putting you to bed he comes out of your room at least four times looking for some item that you must have in order to go to bed.  You will often insist that you can't possibly go to sleep until you kiss Cooper.

I could go on and on, Sloane.  Though it isn't always easy, I got the sassy girl I always wanted.  You are the coolest thing around and we love everything about you.  We can't wait for all of the new hilarity that the rest of your 2's will bring.
