In sickness and in death

This is John and I on Saturday evening.

Why were we dressed like this? You’d think for a Halloween party, right? Nope, for a wedding. We were dressed like this because when you get invited to a zombie wedding, you go. Even if the invite came via text two weeks before the event. And when you have the opportunity to participate in a mass zombie wedding vow renewal, you do that too.

Long story short, one of John’s co-workers and his fiancé were musing about what type of wedding would be ideal for them and they both agreed that a full on zombie wedding would be the cat’s meow. A quick phone call to the fine folks that put on Zombiecon and they were on their way to pulling together their dream wedding in just a couple of weeks. The wedding was officiated by none other than Bruce Campbell. Yeah, I didn’t know who he was either. He made his name in a few bad zombie movies in the 90’s. Now he’s on the tv show Burn Notice. Luckily/unfortunately, Army of Darkness just happens to be part of John’s dvd collection so I spent Thursday night getting acquainted with “the chin”. Oh, and for those of you who know Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Army of Darkness…yes, the necronomicon was there.

We showed up at EMP’s skychurch along with about 100 of their closest zombie family and friends. Shortly before the ceremony started they opened the doors to public so those who were attending zombiecon could get in on the action. Of course our camera died before the ceremony began so the only shots I have are from my phone. If you want to see more photos, check out this story that Komo4 did.

It was a really fun night…people got totally into it. The whole wedding party did the zombie shuffle/moan down the aisle, the father of the bride had a stake through his chest, even the flower girl was in character and instead of tossing rose petals she threw fingers and toes into the crowd. In fact, I almost forgot it was a wedding until the bride and groom broke their zombie character to say their vows.

After the wedding, those in attendance were invited to participate in a mass vow renewal with “Reverend” Campbell. Of course, we were right up in front. Just like our actual vows, I giggled the whole way through. The first time it was to keep from crying, this time because the whole thing was so utterly hilarious. After the vow renewal we headed over to the Funhouse for the wedding reception. Yep, that’s the bar with the super creepy giant clown face above the door.

John had a lot of fun with the fake blood

Poor Jonah was at Sandy and Leo's house when we went to pick Sloane up. He was laughing, but I'm pretty sure he was also terrified of John.

Sloane and her crazy parents. I really didn't want to freak her out, but when she did finally get a glimpse of us she didn't seem to care.

A zombie wedding?!?! I've never heard of it, but I'm happy to now know someone that has attended one. You and John played the roll perfectly!
